Judy Kay Alther and John Michael Deal were married Saturday afternoon, December 9, 1972 at 2 p.m. at Washington Baptist Church, Washington, Va. The Rev. James Adkins performed the double ring candlelight ceremony before an altar banked with white gladiolus and white pom pons.
The bride is the daughs ter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Alther Jr. of Washington. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Deal of Peola Mills.
Karl Burke of Washington was organist and vocalist was Mrs. William Harrison of Sperryville.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a formal gown of white velvet designed with a slit mandarin neckline and long bishop sleeves. Venise lace accented the high waistline and she had a chapel train. Her elbow length veil of illusion was attached to a Juliette head piece of Venise lace and she carried a white Bible topped with white orchids and babies breath from which fell streamers tied in lover’s knots.
Miss Ella Mae Harper of Washington was maid of honor. She was attired in a long gown of red velvet which was fashioned like that of the bride. She carried a nosegay of white pom pons with holly with white and green streamers.
Bridesmaids were Miss Deborah Barron of Viewtown, Mrs. Paul Coates of Madison and Mrs. Garfield Burke of Woodville. Her sister, Miss Janet Alther, was a junior brides
