A bunting report

THROUGH THE FIRST four weeks of Rappahannock’s hunting season 200 deer have been checked in the county. Still only one bear has been brought in and nine turkeys so far. ^The checking station at Flint Hill has reported the most deer with 54. Bradford’s Store has checked five of the nine turkeys checked here. Sperryville follows closely in deer checked, with 52. The Washington station has checked 42 deer. Also reported from Baldwin’s Grocery is one bear and two turkeys. Williams Grocery at Chester Gap has checked 32 deer and two turkeys. Amissville has checked 18 deer. Surprisingly, no turkeys have been checked at Jenkins Esso in Amissville.
The number of deer taken during the balance of this season will depend pretty much on the weather. If there is little or no snow before the last day, January 5, we can expect another 25 to 50 deer killed. A heavy snow between Christmas and New ' Year’s Day, which would stay on the groud through January 5, could be a factor in almost doubling this county’s present harvest.
The turkey and bear seasons will end Saturday, December 30, 1972. Trout will be stocked Thursday, December 21 on the Hughes and N.F. Thorntoh Rivers. □
