The leagues expect to show that the line is not necessary in the Rappahannock-Warren-Culpeper-Fauquier area and should be built alongside or in place of existing lines elsewhere.
Meanwhile, RLEP has mailed a fourth letter to those property owners along the route. Said Irwin:
“We had to let them know that no Rappahannock landowner has sold out so far, that no lawyer would recommend accepting an offer without compensation for damage to the rest of their land, and that Vepco would not. condemn an easement until it could prove necessity.
“False rumors to this effect kept coming back to us and we were not surprised. This is the way power companies traditionally operate to sucker landowners into selling out cheap. We just hope that everyone sticks together and is smart enough not to sell out.”
The S. C. C. hearing is expected early in 1973, said Irwin. □
