In days and times when bad news and criticism is the rule, I could not pass up the opportunity to deliver a bit of deserved praise.
The eighth grade boys of our local high school have been fortunate enough over the last few years to have had several community volunteers coach them in basketball. These volunteers have served without pay to help the individual athletes and the county athletic program as a whole without any thought of gain or praise for themselves.
Presently two former Rappahannock basketball stars, Julian Brown and Bobby Settle, are serving as unpaid eighth - grade coaches. Both men are giving up much of their time and energy without the credit they deserve. Julian Brown has for many years been a valuable addition to sports in the county as coach for basketball and Little League baseball, as well as serving as referee and performing innumberable other services for the teams of this area.
Both of these men are also members of the Jaycees, an organization which has worked diligently for many worthwhile causes, including athletics. I hope the public will recognize the individual contributions of Julian Brown and Bobby Settle and help the Jaycees raise more funds for a
