MANY VETERANS of World War II will remember purchasing U.S. Savings Bonds through allotment procedures under which a small portion of their military pay was automatically deducted to purchase savings bonds to help finance the war effort.
Recent information from the General Accounting Office indicated that 706,000 of these bonds with a face value of about $50 million have never been claimed. The total of ex-GIs involved is 188,000. Many bond owners have been determined by checking VA records and other means.
