A TRACTOR-trailer went out of control when the brakes apparently failed as it descended the mountain from Panorama last Wednesday night. The heavy rig ran off the road and turned over down the mountain about five miles west of Sperryville on Route 211.
The vehicle, a 69 Ford tractor, was operated by Jackie Martin West of Chattanooga, Tenn., and owned by Pickett Produce. The cargo of fresh produce, tomatoes, peppers, melons, etc., valued at $10,000 was lost to spoilage. Damage to the rig was estimated at $8,000 by Trooper W. A. Buntin, who investigated. The driver was not injured.
