The largest of clothing was so generous and diverse that in three days the Petties were able to broaden the field of mercy by distributing their excess to the Red Cross, Salvation Army and a few needy families. While each donation was a gift from the heart, others were sacrificial—a mother of three gave from her scanty income, a father of a child with terminal cancer took time to make a contribution, a lady shared her own clothes with one of the girls, a family solely on welfare, the father permanently disabled, offered a Christmas pair of jeans, and even love’s labor was among the gifts—home canned fruit or vegetables. Only in God’s catalog can the identity and whereabouts of each charitable person be found.
