Here’s a bit of what she told me:
“From the beginning this has been an adventure and one that I certainly didn't expect. It’s taken me down a river that suddenly appeared and it’s been on a boat that carried me out in a totally different direction than I expected to be traveling. It's as if a river suddenly appears and the current pulls us in this particular direction. The whole metaphor continues to be an adventure and part of that adventure is the fact that so much is unknown. We don’t know what the answer is and I certainly have found in the last months that this is true. It’s been an unknowing and the unknowing has been radically life changing, becjause it’s so perpetual and so close to the edge of life and death.
I’ve also learned what it is to recei ve so much help and so much love from people and how to ask for help. I didn’t really understand what total unconditional love was until I received it from so many different people and places without qualification—people in service, helping me to love myself I’m so deeply grateful for that. From the thousand cranes made by a dozen women in Rappahannock that fly in the living room as a sign of healing and peace, to the books of artwork, the songs, the notes, lhe healthy meals that friends bring us every night, to the friends who have taken turns coming to stay with us, and to you, Paul, who tells me you love me and that I'm beautiful when so
