He was born on^a farm in Allen county, Kansas, and was a scout in Troop J, Humboldt, Kansas, lle won honors at county and state fairs in a number of agricultural and livestock contest#* He served boys in rural areas aa scoutmaster, district commissioner, merit badge counselor, and camp director. He was camp director for racial groups and handicapped persons. He served in many leadership positions (a school, civic, and fraternal greens - and was a member of the Wyoming Governor's Committee o» Children.
Mr. Johnson assumed his present post in (January 1949, assigned special projects in rural extension and other functions of the Rural Scouting Service.

Shaw of Albany, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. W. E. Patterson of Washington, D. C.; three halfr' brothers, Raymond Atkins of of Sperryville, and Edwin Atkins Washington, D. C., Wilbert Atkins of Baltimore; and a half-sister. Miss Lily Atkins of •Sperryville. '
