They say that out of season bloom usually indicates that a tree or plant has gone through hard times and is flowering in order to survive or perpetuate its line. During a long sunny fall a tree may suffer fTom drought so that it loses its leaves. As a result it puts out new leaves^ and also blooms to avoid extinction. This year many apple and pear trees near Washington, D. C., lost their leaves from disease. Many of these trees were blooming in October and some were in almost full loons
