Over 100,000 Virginia farmers will'be eligible to vote in the annual PMA farmer committeemen elections to be held throughout the State on Thursday, December 15. At this time, according to R, B. Bridgforth, chairman of the state—comngjttoo of the Production andAlarketing Administration, they will select a committee of three firmer s in each of the State’s 436 communities to administer agricultural programs during the coming year. In addition, farmers will choose a delegate from each community who will meet the next day with other community delegates to elect a ’ similar three-man county eommittee for each of the 96 agricul' tural counties in Virginia.

In emphasising the importance -o# the forthcoming- ahetione, Bridgforth said that farmer-committeemen today .are faced with greater responsibilities than ever* ‘ before in administering the wide number of programs that come within PMA’8 scope. Ho pointed to the Agricultural Conservation Program, which alone Include* nearly 70,000 participating farms embracing about 10 million acres of Virginia farmland. Furtherhe noted that PMA'committeemen are responsible for Government price support purchase and loan programs on grains and other commodities, grain storage pno^ grams, acreage allotments, marketing quotas, and the Federal crop insurance program.1' Committeemen have a big job cut out for them -in- looking after these varied interests of our farmers,” Bridgforth said, "only the ablest, wisest, and most representative farmers can properly do , the j*ob, -and it is up to farmers in this election to see that such men are chosen.” Polls will be open all day on December 15 from 8 KK> a.m. ontil 6 KK) p.m. and the location of voting places in each community vrill be announced.
