Long periods of darkness and twilight, adverse Weather, holidays, football crowds and increased drinking are some of the factors making this a deadly traffic season, particularly for pedestrian's. _ ' ‘from the pedestrian's point of tier, three sets of figures should hit harder than an automobile. Last year in Virginia, 2231 pedestrians were listed as involved in' accidents. -Of these, 2022 -were -classified as injured and 209 as killed. Add*8022 and 209 and" you get your 2231 right haek^fn other ■words, pedestrians do not ham steel bodies to protect them and do hot, as do many drivers, survive an accident unscathed.
