The town of Washington is a-stir with its clean-up campaign to be. ready to celebrate Ciean-Up Day, April Friday-the-thirteenth.
The Boy Scouts are volunteering for «lean-up projects on the alleys; neighbors are co-operating to help keep vacant lots clean; and property owners are raking, scrubbing, and brushing.
Plans are a-f oot to plant shrubs near the town marker and at the two entrances to town.
Mrs. Shndmch, of Rockland Nursery, Culpeper, has donated a three-foot magnolia tree to be given as a prise in the clean-up campaign, and Waynesboro Nursery has donated two |5 credits for prises for the best improved property. .
When the ladies of the town first took over the government, they announced that one of their goals was to “clean-up the town." A big-city newspaper interpreted this to mean grnft jmd afl fWms of vicious crime. For the benefit of those who do not understand that large graft would be slightly difficult in the fair- “First Washington of Them All”, this statement is made clearly «ad concisely: the Clean-up Campaign means cleaning property, yards, streets, alleys, vacant lota, and making « definite effort .to remove the horrible mutilation done by man to 'Washington’s natural beauty.
