Quick action by the AmissviUe VFD saved Keith Riley’s garage and new car last Friday. Its firefighters got there just in time to extinguish a brush fire that would have destroyed both. The brush fire- started from a trash fire whipped out; of control by high wind and was racing rapidly toward the garage when the alarm was given. The department’s engine, onjy about a half a mile away in front of Elmer Jenkins’s garage, was there within minutes. This is the third serious brush fire put out by the AmissviUe VFD since it was organized only a few months ago. All was extinguished in time to avoid destruction of valuable property. Department members feel proud of their new department’s record: Three alarms, three successful put-outs. Response to the department’s plea for donations of cinder block has been so good that original plans for second-floor wood construction have been changed to build the new firehouse entirely of cinder block.
