Possible Soil Surrey
It is still a “posiblc” soil survey for the county unless the people make it known that they want it.
With the adjoining counties mapped and the soil types marked and in working order, the value of the soil suhrey is known. Farmers in Rappahannock realize that a soil survey would help them; one orchardisT believes it will be worth $100,000 to the county; the Rappahannock National Bank knows the value of such a survey and Isas donated office space to the workmen while they are in the county; the county agent has written letters to urge that this county be selected for survey—now comes the time when the people’s wishes will count.
The biggest factor in obtaining this survey now lies in the people saying they want it. There are many, other counties in the State pleading for their county to be the one surveyed this year. Some counties are even putting up large cash donations to get the survey.
Letters will count now. If you realize the value of a soil survey to you, write to Dr. S. S. Obenshain, Agronimist, V. P. I. Experiment Station, Blacksburg, Va., and say so.
It’s a case of “speak now" pr regret it later.
A Neighbor’s Welcome
It was a warm arid sincere greeting given by the Hon. Tom Frost of Warrenton at the firemen's banquet ait Washington last Friday evening. Fauquier’s energetic and alert Delegate to the General Assembly gave the county a warm welcome into the association with neighboring Fauquier. He explained why Fauquier had said they did not welcome an association with neighboring Rappahannock. Fauquier had always had its own delegate, shared with no one, ahd they did not want to change; also, Mr. Frost stated, since D. F. Slaughter had requested that Rappahannock (be put back with Culpeper, then, he, Mr. Frost, would do nothing to go against the wishes of his friend. It’s explanation was pretty well known throughout the county, but coming from Mr. Frost, and accompanied with his warm welcome, it made the county people who heard him feel more comfortable about the new association with Fauquier county.
