August is picnic for most families. These picnics can be with the family and friends or you may wish to pack a lunch and take with you on a trip. For automobile trips and picnics away from home, pack sandwices that are good travelers. Butter both slices of bread to keep filling from soaking through. Avoid fillings that make bread soggy.
Boiled Ham Spread :—Combine M cup butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Mix in 2 teaspoons each of prepared mustard and horseradish and 1/8 tsp. ground cloves. Meat cooked over outdoor grill taste all the better when served in buns or rolls. For extra goodness toast the rolls on the grill along with the meat. Two new versions of old stand by hamburgers and hot dogs are: Cut frankfurters in 1 irfch length. Alternate pieces of frankfurter, small white onions, folded bacon strip and tomato wedges on skewer. Sprinkle with garlic, salt, and cook over hot coals. Serve in frankfurter roll.
For Hamburger Drumstick—’Mix 2 eggs with 1 lb. of ground beef. Add 1 cup bread crumbs and 1 teaspoon of Worchestersliire sauce, 1 tablespoon grated onion, % teaspoon garlic, salt and 2 tablespoons prepared mustard. Knead until mixture holds together. Wrap meat with 1/2 slice bacon and secure with tooth picks. Alternate meat with pieces of green pepper. Cook over hot coals.
Arthur McLean and his soft, who accompanied his mother, Mrs. Jane Hyde McLean of Tennessee, returned on Sunday after a short visit with James A. Estes and Miss Anna Belle Estes. Mrs. McLean is remaining for a longer visit, in the Estes home. Miss Deborah Gustafson of Lynn, Mass, is spending some time with her sister, Mrs. B. H. Weddle Jr. and Mr. Weddle. Luncheon guests of Mrs. W. H. Lyne on Wednesday were Mrs. C. H. H. Branch, Mrs. D. D. Miller and Mrs. J. Rodes Brown, Sr.
