Praises Amissyille VFD

Warrenton’s fire chief “Happy" Brittle praised the progress of the Amissville Volunteer Fire Departmerit when he attended its regular monthly meeting last Wednesday as observer.

“Your department has moved so fast,” he told the 23 Amissville VFD members present, “that we thought we ought to come over and see how you do things."

More plans for Amissville’s second annual firemen’s festival and carnival, to be held September 18 and 19, were made during the meeting.

Concession stands for the carnival will be built by members at a special meeting Thursday, August 20, it was announced. „

The AVFD Ladies’ Auxiliary will handle food and refreshments this year, and will be in charge of those stands.

Col. J. N. Caperton was named chairman of the festival advertising committee, assisted by Charles Priest.

The grand prize of a new Ford Tudor to be given away at the festival is expected to be delivered this week and will be on display until claimed by its lucky owner.

Members decided to enter the Amissville VFD fire engine in the Eltcton’s VFD’s carnival parade Aug. 28.

It is tentatively planned to hold a stag fish fry on Hallowreen night, to which members of the Warrenton, Culpeper, Washington, Sperryville, and other volunteer fire companies will be invited.
