Washington is one ot this Nations favorite place names. According to the most recent survey, there are the following Washingtons in the United States—257 townships; 121 cities, towns and villages; 33 counties; 10 lakes; eight streams, seven mountains, one State, and 15 miscellaneous places.
Pennsylvania-has one of the cities and counties, plus Washington Boro in Lancaster County; Washington Crossing in Bucks County, and Washingtonville in Montrose County.
No matter which town of Washington is oldest, the youngest is believed to be Washingtn, Oklahoma, established in 1907. The smallest is Washington, W. Va., and, of course, the largest is Washington, D. C.
Washington, Va., which seems to have gotten there first, doesn’t make the news often. However, something does come up occasionally to get it in the papers.
Like the day of Nov. 4, 1952, when Rappahannock County went Republican for the first time in its history, giving a small margin to Ike Eisenhower for President. Little Washington, the county seat, has never deserted the Democratic Party. It talked belligerently of seceding from the county. So far nothing has come of this."
