Letter To The Editor
Sir:
With reference to the "‘Letter to the Editor” signed by “One of the Old School” in your edition of 27 May, 1954, may I, as a resident of Amissville only since 14 July, 1953 and as Treasurer of the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department only since 6 January, 1954 state that I resent the implications contained in that letter.
I was invited in early Fall of '1^53 to join what I then felt was a cooperative group of able citizens participating in a worthy community effort with which I was happy to associate myself, the Volunteer Fire Department.
On 6 January, 1954, upon the resignation of Mr. T. C. Barron as Treasurer, I was surprised and proud to be elected as his successor and to fill his unexpired term. The election of a complete unknown quantity to the community in such a position of trust could engender no other reaction by one who
vaunting of our military strength or on attempts to buy friendship by lavish spending of dollars. It will be based on demonstration that we still stand by the principles for which those whom we honor on Memorial Day gave their lives and that we are willing to cooperate with men of good will in any nation who accept those prin-. ciples or who desire to adopt them.
