A third to one-half acre 6fv sudah grass will usually provide adequate grazing for one animal during the critical July and August period when permanent pastures are likely to be least productive. The pasture season of Sudan can be lengthened by seeding half the acreage early and the rest a month -to $ix weekslater.-—— 'Fertilize well; Broadcast and disc in 600 to 800 pounds per acre of an 8-8-8 or 10-10-10 fertilizer. Sow seed at the rate of 20 to 30 pounds per acre. Best results are usually obtained by drilling. A grain drill set to sow two pecks of wheat will seed about 20 to 25 pounds of Sudan per acre. If a drill Is not available, the seedmay be broadcast and harrowed in. . T
Seed from now until July 1. It should be ready for grazing 6 to 8 weeks later. For maximum production, graze Sudan rotationally. Begin grazing when the grass is at least 18 inches tall or taller and graze down to 6 to 10 inches. Remove the animals until the grass is 18 inches high again and then graze again. Normally sudan will . be ready to graze again in 2 to 3 weeks after removing the animals.
Sweet sudan grass in excess of that needed for grazing may be used for silage or hay. Cut as the - first heads appear for highest quality forage.
