Circuit Court convened ill Washington, Monday morning, May 9 with Judge J. H. Alexander, presiding for Judge Rayner V. Snead, who because of duties as a judge in another court, was absent. , * The Grand Jury brought in ah indictment for felony against 1. James Henry Smith; and 2. George Franklin Corbin.
Smith was tried and upon his plea of guilty was sentenced to 1 year in the State penitentiary. The court appointed J. W. Price to defend the accused.
Corbin was tried and upon plea of guilty, was sentenced to 1 year in the State penitentiary. This sentence was suspended and the accused placved on probation for 1 year. J. W. Price, attorney, was appointed to represent the accused.
The Honorable Joseph A. Massie Jr. of Winchester was presented to the court by the Honorable James W. Fletcher, and be thereupon qualified to practice law in this court.
The case of the Commonwealth of Virginia versus Eugene Austin Robinson, was tried. The accused was found guilty of unlawful wounding and was sentenced to 1 year in JaiFand fmed $250. The jail septenoa, however, was suspended by the court pending general good behavior of the defendant.
