the Chiefs went down, but! then George Pullen connected for a dean single. Clater and Ned Settle followed suit with singles, and Pullen was brought home with the first run. Charles Dodson flied out to left field to retire the side.
In the bottom of the second, Stephenson got a single and went to second on an infield error; to third on a fly ball; and came in with their lone run on Crim’s long fly to left field. Hodges grounded out to the infield.
Husky Scroggins singled, Edwin Scroggins struck out and Jackie Sisk grounded as Scroggins moved to second. Pete Clater smashed a homer to drive in Scroggins, bring* ing the score to 3-1. Buck Clater singled and Pullen was out on a fly to right field. 1 I ■
The Chiefs went down in order |n the third, fourth and fifth and Stephenson batters continued the 1-2-3 sit down from the second to the ninth, when they made a last ditch effort to score.
Ned Settle doubled in the sixth, with Charles Dodson following with a solid single. Sisk, Menefee and Scroggins went down, fending the Chiefs to the field. ' The Chiefs again appeared on scoring ground in the seventh when P. Clater and Pullen walked, R. Clater struck out, and Ned Settle filled the bases when he went to 1st on a Stephenson etror. Charles Dodson flew out and Husky Scroggins was thrown out on a grounder. Y Neither side saw action in the eighth. Stephenson threatened to whittle down the Chiefs' 2 run lead in the bottom of the ninth. A single send Stephenson to base. The next man up grounded out, but then Sisk gave up his, first walk of the game. With 2 men on base, •the 2 run lead looked small. Stephenson lined a grounder to third base where Ned Settle snatched the ball and whizzed it to Charles Dodson at second, and he relayed it to first catching the man coming in, and accounting fpr a double play climax to the game.
