Since Rappahannock County first entered the Red Cross Blood program in March, 1952,. 684 pint* r* blood have been used by county citizens, whereas the county has only contributed 364 pints in this period—we have used 320 more pints than we have given. It is understandable that Rappahannock can not contniue to be included in the blood - program if year after yeai;, she falls below her quota, and thus uses far more than she gives. This is the year of decision. If the quota of 108 is not reached- by this week end, the bloodmobile will not make her visit and the, county will be out of the program. Then every pint of blood that a resident requires in hospitals must be paid for. There will be no more free blood. N Rappahannock has. never filled A its quota. Over the 3 years that the program has been in effect locally,out of a total quota of 858, 364 pints have been given. The argument has been heard. that the Bloodmobile is coming the wrong time of the year. Well, it has- been here in March, in September and in October. .It was once planned for January but due Jto colds, was changed to another month—in none of; die times ha*' the county met the quota.
Natiortal-headquarters has been most cooperative in planning die visit when it is most suitable according to county sentiment. They - have kept workers on overtime in Washington, D. C., in order that the pints-.received from Viscose workers, coming in after work, could be processed. Still we have never met the .quota.
