Study Diseases
Cattle are subject to veneral diseases. One of them is “vibriosis” The VPI scientists are currently trying to devise a routine, reliable disgnostic-method, important from the standpoint of spotting the disease in its early stages and {Preventing its spread. Diagnosis now is difficult even in the laboratory, and quite impractical down on the farm. Abortions and sterility of cattle are symptoms of this disease.
The dairyman is old bugaboo, mastitis, is the subject of another project underway. Mastitis is a label applied loosely to any inflammation of the udder, and various bacteria are at fault.
Some of the problems have a sort of humor—some of it grim. But even to the unlikeliest questions there is usually a scientific answer. Take the correspondent who wanted to know how many bones in a horse. He got the answer (205). But now the researchers wonder why he wanted to know.
