John t>ad listened and pondered as to what would be his mission. He too was aware of something different, of some powerful force leading him to an end but the nature of the end puzzled him. Then came the day when his youth was behind him and he was compelled by the yet unknown quantity within him to retire to the quietness of the wilderness. There in solitaary communion with God he tore apart his ideas, he opened his complete consciousness to Trod and listened for the quantity to take on an identity. The answer came—not in a flash of light—but in a deepening of aware ^ ness within him. All was still not clear. He only knew that he was the man, chosen—-not as the Messiah. Th£ childhood prophecy had been confirmed and strengthened in definite terms. Keeping this unraveling in mind, John left the wilderness not to organize a new sect W to inaugurate new political movements but to proclaim a message and issue a summons.
