The custom of wearing robes and masks on Hollowe'en originated in parly times when it was thought that witches and ghosts were most likely to wander about on that night. This is a part of the mystic atmosphere which surrounded Hallowe’en among the early people, including the Druids, who also thought the iord of death cajied together the* souls of the wicked at Hallowe’en and " condemned them to inhabit the bodies of animals. But as time passed, it seems that the “souls of the wicked’’ have been converted to the degree of being merely mischievous and have been transferred from bodies of animals to those of every tot and oldster, too, who are young at heart and physically able to join the neighborhood “gangs’’ of celebrants each year. They rove the town in high glee, throwing their neighbors into moods varying from rib-tickling laughter to stark dismay.
And we believe there is no more fitting way to observe the passing of the “Golden Month”, than celebrating Hallowe’en so long as the revelers abide by the Golden Rule, and play no prank on anyone they would not like played on them-* selves. *__ - . LETTER TO THE EDITOR Dear Sir:
Due to some recent questions concerning the value of home demonstration and club work in the county, a resume of club work was developed. The home agent is responsible for all girls club work in the county and assists the farm agent.
There are eight 4-H Clubs in the county at the following schools
