Hep. Bun' P. Harrison is planning to offer legislation in Congress to make so-called "Junk" mail pay its way.
The 7th District Representative said he applied the term primarily to "unsoHcited advertising material 'which now enjoys a subsidy in the form of bulk rates."
•Mr. Harrison emphasized he was aware of other subsidies in the postal rate structure and said:
“Although many economies in mail-handling could and should be made, the tremendous continuing postal deficit is traceable largely to huge subsidies being received by various types of mail other than the first-class letter. In talking with citizens in many communities during the adjournment of Congress, I have found particular resentment against the uniordered advertising matter which clutters mail boxes each day. The public has become increasingly aware that its tax money is helping pay for the transportation of such material. ■
