Two experiments will be nut in Rappahannock county this year to determine tl|e value of anhydrous Amonia uhder different soil and fertility conditions on the yield of corn as compared to other nitrogen sources. Oijie of these demonstrations will be conducted on the • Brown farm ovj’ned by Earl Kilby oh a Brandywine silt loam soil and the other on a Eubanks clay loam soil on Windsor Lodge farm managed by Bernard Dahlgren. Both experiments will be located in fields adjacent! to the highways where they will be Teadily accessible for observational purposes.
The objectives of the study are (1) to compare equal quantities of nitrogen from ajnhydrous ammonia
to equal quantities of nitrogen from nitrate on soda and a commercial lO-lO-jO fertilizer; (2)
to study yield rejsponce and growth habit of com treated with anhydrous ammonia and (3) chemical changes in the soil resulting from use of anhydrous ammonia. ' This study islbeing made by request and grant of funds from the Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation of Baltimore. It has been reported that a djfference in results has been obtained from uses of anhydrous amrjionia. Some have J obtained excellent results; whereas others have had poor results. Thus a series of experiments conducted in Northern Virginia, to include those in Rappahannock, should yield information concerning the use of this material.
