Teacher Shortage ;
An enthusiastic frank exchange of ideas on the procurement of teachers and “holding them once they are here” was the tone of 1, Tuesday’s Parent-Teacher’s meet- \. ing at RCHS. The school board ' and teachers were well represented but there Was a noticeable shortage of parents, suggesting an alarming i apathy on their part. 1
“What the PTA can do to make Rappahannock more attractive to present and future teachers” brought forth many and varied suggcstidfts, including:
i) Let the teachers know they are welcome citizens of the community by your personal attitude; - 2) Even as the teachers respect your job as turner, laborer, wjhite collar worker, io you should show a mutual respect for their work as a teacher; •
3) Improve the housing situar . tion for hoarding teachers
4) Increase recreational facilities. It was the sentiment that not too, much could be done in the latter vein. Liking or disliking the country life, with its opportunities and its drawbacks, depends on the * personality of the teacher, However* * the PTA, the ^hurch guilds and other organizations could make a special effort to welcome the & teachers; ' ■ ■ VV’ / -v-;
