POLIO—From Pago 1 first two doses are sufficient to give primary immunization. The third dose gives a full immunization (a high degree of protection).
The eligible'group (children 1 through 10 and expectant mothers) should receive this protection now to get two doses of vaccine before the 1956 season really starts. Only 25% of the known eligible children have received good protection against paralytic polio. They have had two or more of the recommended doses. One thousand two hundred and thirteen children, one through ten years, were listed in the 1955 school census.
There is no way of knowing how many expectant mothers are eligible for the polio vaccine. Expectant mothers are estimated to be about twice as susceptible to paralytic polio as the non-pregnant women of the same age group. Polio vaccine is advised for pregnant women.
Polio vaccine may be obtained from the private doctor or may be obtained, by appointment, at the vaccination clinic of .the Rappahannock County Health Department, phone 2631. _
