Members present suggested that the general educaton apathy, die' lack of interest in the school situation, was a county-wide problem, although in Forest Grove and ■ other small communities, there is a - fast awakening, progressive element of interest. In spite of these exceptions there is a general “don't care except when it hits my pocket-> book” attitude.
The question was raised as to> whether the present unsettled segregation-integration issue might not promote a lack of interest among the parents. “It provides a good excuse to use instead of their old time worn ones", commented an interested citizen.
The “borrowing” of the 10 cent school construction levy to pay .or the reassessment this year as suggested in the tentative budget, was another issue discussed. As •there was no specific promise but only inferences that the levy would be returned to the fund, it was considered wise for the members to show the supervisors they expect it back, come another year.
