The Rappahannock Board of Supervisors held tfceir regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 6th with all mergers pre- , sent. Practically three fourths of the time was given to the report of the Superintendent of Public Welfare. . The Superintendent asked for an additional $1,234 for the next year’s work. The 1956 budget allowed $9270 for the work. The entire amount, however, spent in the '-ounty from all sources, being $53,000.
T :s seemed a lot of money for tax layers to pay, according to one sum -visor, and along with the opinion he offered a good suggest tion that, “teen age boys of-families receiving assistance be encouraged to "Imt and work a familygarden ’"stead of spending their time loafmg around public places smoking cigarettes. This would heln immensely” he said.
Granting the increase was taken under advisement.
The Board allowed $150 to the County Comittee to help with the Jamestown Celebration.
NOTE: Some years ago .the - County had a “Garden Director” " and the work, under the efficient and .conscientious leadership of Miss Louise Anderson was most successful. Land around poorer homes in the countv and in mountain districts that had been growing weed bushes, produced hundreds of dollars worth of wholesome food.
