Brush Burning Law
' Began March 1st -
The Brush Burning Law went into effect in the county as of March 1st stated Chief Forest Warden. Raymond M. Johnson of Rappahannock County. He also stated that it was his responsibility to enforce this law in the county as a representative of Virginia Division of Forestry.
Briefly, this law states setting of fire to brush, grass, leaves or other inflammable material is illegal within 300 feet of woodland or brush land in the county between March 1st and May 1 sth of each vear, except between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and midnight. If convicted of violating this law. a fine of not less than $10.00 or more than $100.00 can be imposed by the County Judge of the county. Also, if a forest fire is allowed to start from such burning, the responsible pnrtv is liable to the Countv for suppression of the fire.
The Virginia Division of Forestry records show that each year approximately thirty’ percent of the forest fires in the state are caused bv careless burning either hr violation of the Brush Burning T.aw.or during other periods of the vear when this law is not in effect.

A menu consisting of Turkey, and all the trimmings. Country ham, white potatoes, peas, hot rolls coffee, cherry pie and ice cream, got the fourth annual banquet off to a good start Friday evening February’ 22 at 7:00 P. M. given by the Amissville Fire Company, in the fire hall.
The evening began with the group singing “America” after which the toastmaster, Mr. Ralph Rowzie introduced the Dr. Arthur Shelton pastor of the Methodist church of Warren ton who led in praver of thanks.
