Explosion At
Cross Creek
Injures Two
The Amissvifle Fire Co. and Culpeper Rescue Squad responded to a call Friday night, May 17, at Cross Creek. Service Station near Amissville, where an explosion and fire had severely burned William Browders and Jeanette Johnson,' both colored, and partially destroyed a cinder block building.
It is assumed a match was lighted after a propane gas jet had been left opened, caused the ex- „ plosion which blew out one side of the building, ignited the interior and severely burned the occupants.
Efficient operation by Amissville Fixe Co. extinguished the fire and ; cooperation of Culpeper Rescue Squad, which administered first . aid and took the victim to Culpeper where the were sent ~to - University Hospital in Charlottesville by ambbulance, brought the siuation under control.
On Tuesday, Browders’ condition was considered satisfactory and Jeanette Johnson’s condition was still critical.
