Mrs. Grace Weaver entertained the Washington ’H. D. Club at her home on Tuesday evening. The main discussion centered around our next county market. July 30th, and this club voted to make aprons with apple designs as their club protect. The demonstration: “New Ways with Fruits”— making Apple Surprise, and a fresh fruit salad.

Funds For
Hurricane Victims
Mrs. M. |. O’Connell. Volunteer Field Consultant for this area, in a letter Tuesday to the News, stated that Rappahannock Countv Chapter A. R. C. had not been assigned anv quota for the relief work being done for the victims of Hurricane Audrev”s vicious blast, especially at Cameron. La., but that it was hoped as many as possible would send contributions to Mrs. A. M. Verner. Washington. Va.. County Treasurer, and that they would be sent immediately to National Headquarters to he used in that area where the situation is tragic in the extreme.
About S00 refugees- remain today in Red Cross shelters that formerly housed as manv as 20.000 and at one point fed 70',000 meals in 24 hours at the height of the emergency evacuation period.

Red cross societies ljave wired their “deep and sincere sympathies” for the victims. So far message* have come from the League of Red Cross Societies in Geneva. Switzerland. and from Australiaffi Canadian. Colombian. British, and Phillippine Red Cross groups. The Canadian Red Cross already has contributed $50,000 to the American organization and has offered ‘ more if needed.”
