Large Blue Gill in Lake Brittle
Lake Brittle, a Virginia game commission-controlled public fish-, ing lake in Fauquier County, produced a one-pound 11-ounce bluegill this month to set a near-record for the species, according tb Jack Sheridan, state fish biologist.
Lake Brittle was reopened to fishing May 4, ar.d so far, Sheridan reports, bass catches have been slow and bream catches fair to good, depending upon the anglers’ skill. Bream sizes have been running large, or.e fisherman pulling in 25 bream that totaled 16 pounds in weight.' Good bream growth is the result of the lake being drained and ridden of competitive rough fish two years ago. The lake is being heavily fertilized, and fishing in the 77-acre body of water should improve markedly by late summer, , the biologist concluded.
