For Want Of Blood
Somewhere a child is waiting for blood to be collected from donors so the doctors can perform open-heart surgery and restore that dnld to health. In some hospital a man lies critically injured, his ■ life sustained by the steady flow of blood from a bottle hanging near. His donor is unknown yet now ministers to this man through the blood he donated at a Red Cross Blood Center. But what if the blood were not available?
The Washington Regional B'ood Center has an inadequate supply of blood to me^t the demands of the area, of which Rappahannock is a part. Not only has there been a summer slump, But there has been a decline'in annual blood collections. The total for the year ending June 30, 1958 was 92,000 pints. The total for the year ending this past j June 30 slipped to 84,000. Simply to keep pace with the population growth, the Red Cross estimates its blood collections most increase by 5000 ■ a year.
What will the responsible Citizens of Rappahannock do to alleviate the shortage to which our citizens ^iave contributed? We are in arrears over 200 pints in three years.
