Handle ewes with care.. The pregnant ewe should be handled with care but not pampered. She must have plenty of exercise. She must be given protection from the winter winds, snow, rain, but not ‘over-housed’ in closed bams. She needs lots of fresh air.
The pregnant ewe should be kept in a gaining condition through out pregnancy. Alfalfa or lespedeza hay should be offered. During the last month, her unborn will make most of it’s weight and size, and her milk plant will start up. Her ration must be increased to provide for both. Grain should be allowed. Equal parts by measure corn, oats and bran is a good mixture.
Use your hands, not your eye, to tell the cohdition of pregnant ewe^. If poor, start feeding grain as soon as detected, and double during the last month.
