Also they mean healthier people as well as healthier livestock. Healthy people are productive people; reproductive people; happy people. i We wish results in controlling and preventing internal and external parasites of livestock was as complete and wide spread. While we have emphasized the value of controlling these pests, when and how, didn't know how to measure results other than by sensing the increase in request for control measures from farmers which were decidely more.particularly in October, November and December.
Co-operative marketing has been and will continue to be stressed. During 1959 a record number of cattle were marketed through our organized sales by a record number of farmers. Total head.2029 through nine different sales representing 68 consightnents which included 16 new consignors. Rappahannock Angui .had the second highest quality kal£ in the state (42% AA and A as compared to '' 45% at Staunton) and received ^the second highest average ($30.57 as compared to $30.92 at Orange). Not bad when> we consider the fact that there were 27 fall sales! Purebred sires known to have been placed were: Angus 23; Hereford 3; Shorthorn 1; IHaippshire rams 3 7; Dorsets 1; and several boats. Our farmers pooled 5623 pounds of wool at a decided price advantage, (6V2C per pound over local offerings.) Rappahannock Farmers’ Cooperative reported “practically every one who is treatng swine for internal parasites1 is now fasing piperazine”. This is the newest and most effective and easiest vermifuge to administer on die market today. Work with our Artificial Dairy Cattle Breeding Association contnued, 491 firste services representing a 79 cow increase over 1958. All bred to superior purebred sires! Continued next week
