A.C.P. —Requests for aid in conservation practices in 1959 was $6,000 to $8,000 above 1958 of which 90% was for fertilizer and /or lime. t

Weed and brush control is a definite part of any successful pastu remand forage program. A.CP. had five more farmers using chemical brush control methods in 1959 as compared to 1958.

Rappahannock Farmers’ Co-Operative reported-“Selling 100 gallons more weed killer in 1959 as compared to a year earlier. Insecticide sales were about the same. “Our fall fertilizer sales have been higher thari ever before. All seeds sold were recommended adapted varieties.”

Insect and weed control, proper rates of liming and fertilization, use of adapted varieties, proper anaiysis fertilizer, adapting the crop to the soil, crop maintenance^, adapted rotations, etc, all means getting the most out of labor and machinery and land, ‘and in addition conservation of our human, natural and capital resources! And above all increased income for todays living.

LIVESTOCK

Parasite and disease control, adequate balanced rations, purebred sires, feed additives, antibioticr, harmones, herd and flock management programs, marketing procedure and methods, letting people know where and when could be purchased, balance between animal units, pasture and cropland production, allof these were emphasized by mass individual media; radio, news, letters, conversations, etjc.

Results: Rappahannock was declared a Modified-Certified Brucellosis Area May 1, 1959. Your county agent arranged and assisted with three county-wide Bang’s vaccination programs: March 92 heifers..32 owners; July 189 heifers .30 owners and November 237 heifers._..52 owners.

Anguj breeders required all heifers going through their sales '(579 head) to be Bang’s vaccinated at the proper age.

Livestock Health Bulletin showed Rappahannoii to be one of five counties' in the state vaccinating no less than 100% of her heifer population.
