Leadership for the 60’s
In 1953 the United States stood as a towering head of world-wide power and respect. We had unrivaled strength, firm prestige, strong and dedicated allies, wide-spread good will and, above all, a positive foreign policy program. We had borne the great burdens of the rehabilitation of the depressed countries of Europe and Asia. We had helped to develop strong democracies in former enemy countries and had helped former colonies achieve their burning desire for independence. We had stood firm in the face of communist aggression and had stopped it cold. These achievements were brought about wider a Democratic administration but were genuinely bi-partisan. Compare our position then with the present. Insure a rebirth of this type of leadership for the critical 1960’s.
