Silage Clinic
Quality silage will be die topic at a day long meeting to be held November 9 at Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises, Inc., according to County Agent W. H. Lyne.
Sponsored by the VPI Agricultural Extension Service, the institute will cover production, feeding, economics of feeding, and evaluation of silage. Beginning at 10 a.m., the event will continue until 3 p.m. with a Dutch treat lunch to be served on the grounds.
W. VV. Lewis, Extension agronomist, will speak on “Production of Top Quality Silage.” Kenneth Loope, agricultural economist, will cover, “Economics of Silage Feeding for Virginia Dairymen.” VV. S. Griffith Extension dairyman, will address the group on, “Feeding Top Quality Silage.”
Dairymen attending the meeting are requested to bring a capped quart jar sample of the silage they are now feeding. Dr. T. A. Meyer, Managing Director of the National Silo Association, will evaluate these samples.
From 1 to 3 p.m., Dr. Meyer will explain how he evaluates silage visually, and will discuss as many samples of silage as time permits. The meeting will be adjourned promptly at 3 p.m.
