William Carter

William Carter departed this life May 3, 1961 at his home near Washington, Va. after a long period of illness ahd declining health. He was born in Culpeper Countv March 10, 1866. In 1877 he wa; married to Miss Margaret Jackson. To that union there were 14 children. He was a devoted husband and father. Besides his wife he leaves five sons, Ezzie and Rus-ell Carter, Washington, Va., Harry and Ernest Carter Pittsburgh, Pa. .and Roosevelt Carter, Washington. D. C.; two daughters, Mrs. Viola Butler and Mrs. Edith Patterson of Washington, D. C. ; one brother, Silas Carter of Luray and 10 grandchildren' and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from Hopewell Baptist Church in Sperryville May 6 with interment in the church cemetery.

Mrs. William B. Porter and son, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Porter, Jr. and Miss Virgie Williams spent the weekend in Emporia visiting Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Webb, Mrs. Porter’s brother-inlaw and sister.
