Shearing Champ
Continued from page one Virginia District Contest this spring did not daunt his desire and determination to win. He got busy lining up sheep to shear afternoons after school and on weekends. He sheared 670 head in addition to his own.l
From Blacksburg Harrison wrote, “Will have a surprise for you when I get back Saturday. I remembered what you told me that afternoon you went with us to shear and it paid off.”
Harrison has what every coach likes to see in a member of his teairu_..desire plus ability to listen and do.
Jack Sisk, now studying Animal Husbandry at V. Tech, was Rappahannock’s first champion State Shearer, winning in 1958. ' %
In looking ahead, Harrison is already planning to pass his art on to his brother, George, to Clarence Jenkins, who lives with the Powers and to Tommy Lillard, who teamed up with him doing custom work this spring.
Anyone who has ewe Iambs to be kept for replacements let me know. They should be shorn if maximum growth is to be had and Harrison still has some brushing up to do before we head west for the National!
