Mr. Yates is a native of Rappahannock, born and reJired in the F T. Valley next door to. where he now lives. He is the son of the late William R. Yates and Tillie Alice Ryan.
Mr. Yates was married to Kathleen Hudson in 1920 and they had two children, Mrs. Elinor Lee Schueler of Northumberland, Pa. and William Hudson Yates of Salem, Va. After the death of his first wife, 'He married Evelyn Bixenstine and they have two children, Janet Edna and Lois Evelyrt at home
August 2, 1927 Mr. Yates began "carrying the mail on an 18.1 mile route which was later extended to cover 36 miles daily.
When asked what he would do to occupy his time Mr. Yates replied that he had plenty of bushes on his 100 acre farm that needed grubbing and it wjll soon be corn cutting time also.
Mrs. Yates, Mr. and Mrs Harvey Schueler and Mr. ancl Mrs. William Yates entertained Sunday with a surprise dinner at the Yates home honoring the birthday and retirement of Mr. Yates. Continued on page seven
