per cent. On Virginia auctions last week, good grade steers averaged $21.75 to $23.75 with standard grade at £20 to $21. Good grade heifers were $19 to $21.75 and standard heifers at $16.25 to $19. I nr Chicago, good grade steers were $22.50 to $24, and good heifers $21.50 to $22.50.

SOYBEANS

On-farm storage under loan for , soybeans still looks like the best kind of insurance.

With a total soybean supply of 716 million bushels, compared to last year’s disappearance of 576 million, the Government is already talking about buying up oil for export in order to shore up prices and keep beans from rolling back into hands.

It is still to early to size up all the factors on the soybean market, but there will probably be some price weakness as harvest becomes heavy. There should be strength later, however.

Soybeans in Richmond last week were $2.19, with Norfolk $2.25 to $2.30, Northern Neck $2.20 to $2.21, Baltimore $2.28 to $2.34 and Chicago $2.41
