Many persons living in the area serviced by the Winchester Social Security Office are receiving disability insurance benefits. Mrs. Hazel F. Daiy, manager of fthe Winchester Office stated that there are probably many more persons who would be entitled to disability benefits if they filed an application.

The requirements for disability benefits are simple:

1. A person must be unable to perform any substantial gainful work and his disability must be of a nature that is expected to continue indefinitely.

2. He must have worked in employment covered by social security for at least 5 years out of the ten immediately before he became disabled.

3. He must file an application for disability benefits.

Payment of ' disability benefits can be made beginning with the seventh month after a person be- j comes totally disabled. Retroactive payments are limited to twelve months:.
