Sperryville Firemens carnival was well attended and enjoyed by record crowds last week. Total gross receipts amounted to over $10,000, the best since its beginning-several years ago.
Miss Geraldine Baldwin, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Baldwin, was honored with the title of Carnival Queen, and was crowned Friday evening by Eddie Matherly, radio personality frm Station WKCW in Warrenton.
Stevie Aylor was runner-up.in the queen contest.

Best majorette group, Fauquier Steppettes; Best drum & bugle corps, Luray; Best .band, Charles Town .High School; Best float, Division of Forestry’s Srnokey Bear; Best comic entry, Atkins Fruit Stand; Best marching unit, Newton Artillery unit; Best rodeo arena, Kanka Indian Dancers, Luray; Best antique car, Tutwilers; Best honorary fire chief, Remington; Best Boy Scouts, Sperryvifle.
Larry Groover, Castleton was awarded the jjrand prize, a 4962 Ford Fairlane. Other prizes given were a Savings Bond to L. S. Wampler; a ladder back walnut chair to Fred Herndon and 50 gallons of gasoline to Robert L. Lunceford. Stevie Baldwin o f Washington, Va. was awarded the pony given away Friday.
The members of the Sperryville Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary extend their appreciation to all who attended, made donations of food, worked and helped in any way. Only through the cooperation of all, can our volunteer fire companies be equipped and maintained.
4-H Club Picnic
Re-Scheduled
The 4-H Club picnic scheduled to be held at Schuler’s Recreation Area near Luray yesterday, was rained out. It has been re-scheduled for Wednesday. August 15. All arrangements will be the same.
Parents, brothers and sisters of 4-H members are invited to join in the fun and fellowship. See you Aueust 15.
