Reduces State Rates
The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia placed in effect Sunday July 15 further reduced rates for long distance calls within the state.
New reduced rates placed in effect will apply to many long distance calls that are made within the state on both day and night station-to-station calls. Further savings will be realized by telephone users as a result of reduction in overtime rates.
Last April 15, the C&P initiated a new intrastate long distance bargain rate applicable every night 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. With this service, C&P customers can call on a station-to-station basis anywhere in Virginia for an initial charge of 50 cents or less when the call is billed to the originating telephone.
The two rate reductions in the past 90 days by C&P is expected to save its phone users $928,000 a year on long distance calls.
H. E. Lindsey, local C&P man-' ager, said that 70 per cent of all long distance calls within the state are station-to-station.
