Virginia's 1962 Wheat acreage now being harvested will be only 179,000 acres, 28 per cent below last year and the lowest of record, according to the Statistical Reporting Service. The reduction is due chiefly to the diversion of 155,600 acres under the 1962 wheat stabilization program.

Similarly, the State’s production is placed at 4,744,000 bushels which is about 30 per cent under the production of 1961 and the 10-year average, and . the third smallest crop since estimates began.

Based on Junel conditions the SRS reports show that the national 1962 winter wheat crop will be about 846 million bushels, 21 per cent below last year and 3 per cent below average.
